This site first focuses on providing a place for persons dealing with barriers in their way, hampering their full use of the Internet. That is the reason for the "Cynthia Says" statement. (It used to be "Bobby Certified" but that service is no longer active). Cynthia Says is based on the accessibility tests now provided by "HiSoftware Content Quality" and based on work originally started by Cynthis Waddell, an internationally recognized expert in Disability Law, Policy and Technology.

It signifies that this page has been subjected to the evaluation that determines if there are features or capabilities identified as those which tend to reduce the usefulness of a web pages for users who approach from the other side of the Digital Divide.

This does not mean that there are no graphics or no animated features or page frames or columns used elsewhere in the site. It does mean that the pages that use these normally "forbidden" features are presented in ways that provide alternatives for using these features so that someone who would normally have problems using them will be able to use their browser to navigate these features and get information they may be trying to access. For instance, on the "My Resume" page that uses animated, mouse-over icons for Page Frame selection, there are also static icons that do not require Java and visual clues for their use. On that same page, if your browser is set to not use page frames, selecting the "My Resume" page will present a text version of my resume rather than the more complex system of page frames and animated icons.

This site is also used to present some of the important activities around ISOC-LA and the work I have fostered to help promote the use of the Internet and the reasonable use of new technologies that assist us in our endeavors to improve our communities and our social and personal interactions.

Management and incorporating new technologies does not just "happen". The ability to develop and implement new technologies and new business paradigms depends heavily on leadership and both long-term experience and up to date knowledge and skills coupled with esential organization, adequate resources, and effective project management.

A little about current activities:

President, Internet Society Los Angeles Chapter, http://www.ISOC-LA.org

• Goal: Increasing access to and the usefulness of the Internet for people in the Los Angeles and Southwestern United States.
• Started the Public Service Education Series - September 2000: Phase 1 - Develop a multi-organization Task Force to Build a Bridge across the Digital Divide for the Los Angeles Area. • Internet Events, Meetings, Special Interest Groups, and other activities that will get you more involved with the Internet and provide the opportunities to develop your own network of Internet experts.  (See our web-cast of the Vint Cerf Dinner on June 6, 2000!)
• We are preparing to support the ICANN meeting in LA from 29th October through 2nd November 2007. ISOC asked me to Chair the meeting. ISOC-LA povided a small amount of local flavor for visiting Chapters.

• Building relationships between new technology organizations in Southern California.

• Extablished for the 2000/2001 School Year. The first full class graduated in May 2002!
• One of the first Technology Seminars presented to class the was "Internet Hot Topics" I presented in November 2000.
• We have begun to develop, with significant Fellow participation, an Online Colloquium.
• For the 2001/2002 school year we developed a relationship with larta, the southern california technology alliance - one of the primere Technology Entrepreneur programs in the United States. Students and staff have been attending the larta University classes all year.
• Extended technology support to the Western Justice Center Foundation. We developed a computer lab, computer support, and interactive multi-media training modules for use in the primary school age training programs. for Mediation and Dispute Resolution. Technology support for the Western Research Application Center in the Viterbi School of Engineering at the Universidy of Soutnern California (USC) http://wesrac.usc.edu/.

Most recently (completed in June 2007) for ANI Networks/NOS Communications a long-term project to Design, Develop and Maintain multiple, complex database systems, coupled with new programming approaches, that ensure profitability even during continuing increasing marginal costs and declining marginal revenues for this consortium of telephone, Internet and general telecommunications companies.
